AMIGA LIFE IN HUNGARY
---------------------
You could read a lot of scene
reviews in different mags, and
probably you are very bored of them.
In spite of that I decided to make a
Hungarian scenereport, because of
three reasons:
. The Hungarian scene isn't very
known and there were mostly very bad
quality reports about it.
. There were a lot of changes in
the hungarian scene lately.
. Sledge Hammer is now the only
hungarian scene-mag, so perhaps the
only source for you to get infos about
the Hungarian computer life.
So prepare yourself for a real
complete report from me, Ben of
Absolute! with using some texts from
Jean of Scoopex & Fester of Absolute!
First some facts about the Hungarian
scene generally:
Believe it or not, but our scene is
more than 4 years old now. We just
couldn't help the fact that our
country was separated from the west,
and the commies really tried to do
everything to make our life much
harder. E.g "they" opened our
envelopes, read our letters and didn't
let the disks out of the border.
Swappers were declared a kind of spies
so it was nearly impossible to trade.
Spreading is already a weak point of
Hungarian scene as there are very bad
phone-lines and 2400 modem is the
fastest usable. Besides, there are
only about -6 elite swappers in the
whole country. Hungarian demo scene
is very little compared to
Scandinavian countries, but there are
very talented dudes here. The biggest
problems are; . financial problems
2. lazyness
The first is a big problem as
Hungary is not a rich country and the
young generation is working for money
and they have no time for computers.
Most scene members are starting to
work on game-projects to earn some
cash, like 23 Celsius, Muffbusters,
Cerberos...
Lazyness is quite usual thing in the
scene and here it's the reason of age
I think. Most famous scene-dudes are
above 20 and there are only a few
young, talented guys. About this
problem you can read in the section
called "HOTLINE".
Okay! Now, as usual I list the
groups of past and present:
SCENE:
------
CELSIUS: One of the oldest
groups in our scene. Their first
members came mostly from Commodore
plus 4. They have released some demos
and intros, but always in hurry and
for this their quality were avarage.
They still have some problems with the
design side I usually hear. They
kicked out a lot of members lately and
they have no divisions. As they say
they are working on 2-3 game projects,
that's the reason of silence. But
after finishing the games, they will
start to make some cool unusual
trackmos. They have organized some
fab parties in co-op with Soc.Brigade,
but BASH is no more a cooperation
between us!
Releases: Digi Movie, Seventh
Attemp, Villed Factors, Terminator 23,
an invitation and some more or less
impressive intros.
Famous members: Absurd, Michael
Angelo, Nexus 6, Cax.
ABSOLUTE!: Yeah, that's us.
Absolute! is a quite new team, born
on the 27th of August. In fact this
is the new Soc. Brigade forced with
many cool new members from Graffity,
Red Rats, Live Act and 23C Crew.
Absolute! is the most productive
group in Hungary with the best
spreading. It has 14 members only in
Hungary. We'll continue releasing
Sledge Hammer, but also in English and
we will organize the BASH parties.
Releases: Musication vol.1., Pizza
Place intro, Sledge Hammer 9 intro,
Abstro, a new loader some bootblocks
and Sledge Hammer mag issue 9.
Famous members: Viti, Jaby, CRM,
ADT, Ben, Erno, Petroff. (Am I the
only one who feels that someone has
been left out? - Fester) (Noooo, I
don't see myself either - Archie)
CERBEROS DESIGNS: Also containing
the so called veterans. Members came
from ex-TDS CREW, which wasn't that
famous at all. Their members are one
of the most talented guys in Hungary,
so that isn't very surprising, that
their demos are very high quality
ones. There wasn't any competition,
where they released something
(CHROMANCE party V1.0, SB23C BASH
V1.0). We really lost something,
since they stopped their scene
activities and started to concentrate
on the game business.
Releases: Mindwreck, Copper Orgasm,
Secret Science, Filled Until Death,
4096 colour intro and some other
stylish ones.
Famous members: Bruce, Silkie,
Cunc, Goophy.
CHROMANCE: Once it was a very
strong and powerful crew. Organized
two parties, and made nice demos both
on Amiga and 64. Members came from
former FBI CREW, DOUBLE U and others.
Nowadays lost their Amiga members and
continue its activity only on the 64.
Releases: Let There Be Party,
intros.
Famous members (all left): SKC,
Griff, Chris, Jazzy D, Jean.
COLLAPSE: It was a fun-crew, now we
know. They've got three members and
released only one intro, but it was
quite cool! The crew was born on a
weekend when CRM/Absolute! and
Avantage/Majic 12 met in CRM's place.
They were bored of scene and made a
crew to surprise everybody! So
Collapse is dead now...
CONCORD: Concord is another new
crew in Hungary, formed in the same
town like Soc.Brigade. They have only
three members and they haven't
released much. They also worked for
Sledge Hammer mainly in music
composing...
Releases: two intros
Famous members: Tesi, Tibi, Feri
DESIGN HOUSE: This crew was found
last summer from former members of
CERBEROS, 23 CELSIUS and others.
Since their first Introduction demo
they faded from view and released
simply nothing. Hopefully we will see
something in the near future!
Releases: Introduction.
Famous members: Boomby.
ERRORS: Don't mix up this group
with the old Norwegian crew under the
same name. They have their label for
approx five years now, and didn't know
anything about the others. So they do
not intend to change their name.
Released sone quite impressive digita-
lized animations and musicdisks.
Releases: Buck Rogers.
Famous member: Bali
FI-RE CREW: They were quite lame at
the very first time, wrote their
scrolls in Hungarian and made some low
quality productions. After they grew
up to the usual standard and
surprisingly we could see their demo,
called "Chaos" on CU Amiga's top ten
in December '91. In the end of '92
after loosing their best members they
decided to "suicide" so Fire Crew is
dead. Their swapper, Mr. Pixel
started to build up a new crew, called
Impulse with the rest of FIRE Crew and
some others.
Releases: Fi-re birds, Chaos,
Fi-re land and some intros.
Famous members: Fricforce, Ready-
soft.
GRACE: Just a division of the
wellknown international group. They
have made one or two musicdiscs and an
average demo. Also organized a party
at the beginning of last year in Gyor,
where BASH3 will be held. Now they
are dead.
Releases: Musicdisc, Working Power.
Famous members: Matrix, Mr.Sister.
GRAFFITI: This group is famous for
their high-quality imagine animations.
They had a department in Finland, but
they are silent for a year...
Releases: Rose Intro, G-Intro
Famous members: After Shave.
IMPULSE: New Hungarian group from
Fire Crew and Submission members,
Submission Denmark also joined. The
organizer is MR.Pixel. Their plans
are releasing a cool demo at
Absolute!'s 3rd Bash party, releasing
a Hungarian and an English diskmag,
divisions in all European countries
and new style chart-mag. They have
released only one intro, with glenz
vectors.
Releases: First Intro.
Famous Members: Mr.Pixel, Renegade
ISCH CREW: A little crew with a few
members and very few releases. They
are a bit known because of Bart of
Isch Crew, who has made some good
pictures for SH and for its intro.
They released a mag called Bomber.
Famous members: Bomber, Bart
K.O. 5001: I don't know much of
them. They have a good graphician and
for this they reached nice places on
several parties...
LAMER CREW: Just like their name
shows, they claim to be lamers. Their
only aim is to make funny demos and
release them on different parties.
They appeare on all the parties with
stickers and lots of booze. They
aren't always successfull, E.g the
first demo of them was so digusting,
that it was not allowed to be shown on
the competition!
Releases: 1st and 2nd demo, Cube
Intro, Black Hole.
Famous members: Rat Face, Atya.
LIVE ACT: It was among the three
best Hungarian groups, but also dead
now. Most of their members live at
the most eastern part of Hungary.
They built up a cooperation with
GENESIS and made a stunning vector
demo with strange and funny objects.
Also they had a Norwegian and maybe a
German division. The group was famous
for its summertime castle parties.
Most of their members left the scene,
others joined Absolute!
Releases: Dentro, The White Room,
and some intros, invitation.
Famous members: Raize, Grekko,
Viti, Jaby, MC.Green.
MAJIC 12: I think, I don't have to
introduce this wellknown team. But
one thing must be written. M12 has
his origin in Hungary and nowhere
else! Beside this they have some
departments in: Norway, Sweden,
Denmark, Australia etc. The founders
came from the former ILC=I LOVE CEMENT
Crew. Since then they became much
greater and also climbed the
Eurocharts with their high designed
demos. Some of their members become a
legend, like Rack. Also they had the
first BBS in our conutry! Nowadays
Majic 12 Hungary is almost dead. Zozo
has sold his machine and left for
England, Rack is in the army, Avantage
is in the army, the others are doing
nothing, only Jazzy D is doing some
swapping and coding an intro.
Releases: Ray Of Hope 1-2, Top
Secret, Zoom it series and different
intros.
Famous members: Avantage, Zozo,
Rack, Maci.
NORTHSTAR: There were some scandal
against the Hungarian section, but as
the Swedish guys didn't give a shit
about the whole scene last time (see
Kaktus and Mahoney), they could do
their job in silence. They are also
seems to be dead.
Releases: Question Of Belief, some
party demos and intros.
Famous members: dr.Test.
MOONLIGHT: They are a talented
group and they all live in the same
region, which is a big advantage.
They think about leaving the scene, it
would be bad move from them... They
planned to release a mag and musicdisk
from Magnum 775, one of the best
Hungarian musician.
Releases: Partyinvitation trackmo
Famous members: Magnum 775, Silver
MUFFBUSTERS: They are a bit out of
scene, because they have released only
one intro and one demo, because of
game projects. They are real
partyfreaks at least! This crew is
getting better lately, they won the
fake Bash party.
Releases: CDTV musicdisk,
digi-intro, a few games.
Famous members: Mucsi, Alex.
RED RATS: They are talented but
lazy guys. They have released many
intros and won some
intro-competitions. CRM their most
active member (ex-leader) joined
Absolute!
Famous members: Frank N. Stein,
Botcher.
SOC.BRIGADE: Again a legendary
band. I can say that they made our
Amiga scene with their unstopable
activity from the beginning of the
time till now. SB is definietly the
most productive Hungarian team, which
is famous for its magazine called
"Sledge Hammer" (unfortunately only in
Hungarian), its parties and at last
but not least its demos. Also they
are the first group with an active PC
division. The most admission must go
to ADT for doing the 80% of job in his
crew. He is a coder, graphician and
musician, organizer and swapper at the
same time! (This was written by Jean
of Scoopex half year ago.) Today
Soc.Brigade doesn't exist. Most of
the members made Absolute!
Releases: Sledge Hammer, SH
slideshows, Boxer, Narcover, Aabsolute
demo an invitation and different great
intros, utilities and Ben's packs!
Famous members: ADT, Ern0, Ben,
Petroff.
SCOOPEX HUNGARY: This is the ex.
TRSI HUNGARY, but as S!P joined
Scoopex, Jean also joined them. He's
the only member at the moment and not
very active as he's in Denmark. Well,
it's hard to write about one person,
but Scoopex Hungary had the first PD
Company im HUNGARY.
Famous membes: Jean
WAVE: This crew formed from the
members of Tuthanhamon. They have
released one trackmo preview. Majic
12 wanted to make a party with themm,
but it remaind plan... They have no
spreader and they no nothing about the
other Wave in Skandinavia.
Famous member: Amon Ra
WAVWRIDERS: A new team in Budapest.
They haven't released much, only some
animations from their graphician,
Soldier. They are only known of their
war with ISCH CREW. May be in the
future they will concentrate in
productions...
Famous members: 4oldier, Soldier.
GAME SCENE
----------
In Hungary, piracy is not prohibited
yet, so you can imagine the situation.
Thousands of people are just playing
with the new or old games, like in
every country. But here are no
cracker teams, just the importers are
making big money for selling stuffs
(read more in To Crack...). But as
the shops don't offer any Amiga game
(only Novotrade sells abou 5-6 games,
the newest one is 2 years old...
-ed), so it's not that bad what the
importers are doing.
Well, I hope it was satisfaction for
everybody. I have to say again, this
article was based in Jean's old scene
review and Fester gave me some good
advices, too. Anyway, who brought it
to you is:
