  1. AMIGA LIFE IN HUNGARY
  2. ---------------------
  3.  
  4.   You   could  read  a  lot  of  scene
  5. reviews   in   different   mags,   and
  6. probably  you  are very bored of them.
  7. In  spite  of that I decided to make a
  8. Hungarian   scenereport,   because  of
  9. three reasons:
  10.  
  11.   .  The  Hungarian  scene isn't very
  12. known  and  there were mostly very bad
  13. quality reports about it.
  14.   .  There  were  a lot of changes in
  15. the hungarian scene lately.
  16.   .  Sledge  Hammer  is  now the only
  17. hungarian  scene-mag,  so  perhaps the
  18. only source for you to get infos about
  19. the Hungarian computer life.
  20.  
  21.   So   prepare  yourself  for  a  real
  22. complete   report   from  me,  Ben  of
  23. Absolute!   with using some texts from
  24. Jean  of Scoopex & Fester of Absolute!
  25. First  some  facts about the Hungarian
  26. scene generally:
  27.  
  28.   Believe  it or not, but our scene is
  29. more  than  4  years old now.  We just
  30. couldn't   help   the  fact  that  our
  31. country  was  separated from the west,
  32. and  the  commies  really  tried to do
  33. everything   to  make  our  life  much
  34. harder.    E.g   "they"   opened   our
  35. envelopes, read our letters and didn't
  36. let  the  disks  out  of  the  border.
  37. Swappers were declared a kind of spies
  38. so  it was nearly impossible to trade.
  39. Spreading  is  already a weak point of
  40. Hungarian  scene as there are very bad
  41. phone-lines  and  2400  modem  is  the
  42. fastest  usable.   Besides,  there are
  43. only  about  -6 elite swappers in the
  44. whole  country.   Hungarian demo scene
  45. is    very    little    compared    to
  46. Scandinavian  countries, but there are
  47. very talented dudes here.  The biggest
  48. problems  are;  .  financial problems
  49. 2.  lazyness
  50.  
  51.   The   first  is  a  big  problem  as
  52. Hungary  is not a rich country and the
  53. young  generation is working for money
  54. and  they  have no time for computers.
  55. Most  scene  members  are  starting to
  56. work  on  game-projects  to  earn some
  57. cash,  like  23  Celsius, Muffbusters,
  58. Cerberos...
  59.  
  60.   Lazyness is quite usual thing in the
  61. scene  and here it's the reason of age
  62. I  think.  Most famous scene-dudes are
  63. above  20  and  there  are  only a few
  64. young,   talented  guys.   About  this
  65. problem  you  can  read in the section
  66. called "HOTLINE".
  67.  
  68.   Okay!   Now,  as  usual  I  list the
  69. groups of past and present:
  70.  
  71.  
  72. SCENE:
  73. ------
  74.  
  75.    CELSIUS:    One   of  the  oldest
  76. groups  in  our  scene.   Their  first
  77. members  came  mostly  from  Commodore
  78. plus 4.  They have released some demos
  79. and  intros,  but  always in hurry and
  80. for  this  their quality were avarage.
  81. They still have some problems with the
  82. design  side  I  usually  hear.   They
  83. kicked out a lot of members lately and
  84. they  have  no divisions.  As they say
  85. they are working on 2-3 game projects,
  86. that's  the  reason  of  silence.  But
  87. after  finishing  the games, they will
  88. start   to   make  some  cool  unusual
  89. trackmos.   They  have  organized some
  90. fab parties in co-op with Soc.Brigade,
  91. but  BASH  is  no  more  a cooperation
  92. between us!
  93.   Releases:    Digi   Movie,   Seventh
  94. Attemp, Villed Factors, Terminator 23,
  95. an  invitation  and  some more or less
  96. impressive intros.
  97.   Famous   members:   Absurd,  Michael
  98. Angelo, Nexus 6, Cax.
  99.  
  100.   ABSOLUTE!:     Yeah,    that's   us.
  101. Absolute!   is  a quite new team, born
  102. on  the  27th of August.  In fact this
  103. is  the  new Soc.  Brigade forced with
  104. many  cool  new members from Graffity,
  105. Red  Rats,  Live  Act  and  23C  Crew.
  106. Absolute!    is  the  most  productive
  107. group   in   Hungary   with  the  best
  108. spreading.   It has 14 members only in
  109. Hungary.    We'll  continue  releasing
  110. Sledge Hammer, but also in English and
  111. we will organize the BASH parties.
  112.   Releases:   Musication vol.1., Pizza
  113. Place  intro,  Sledge  Hammer 9 intro,
  114. Abstro,  a  new loader some bootblocks
  115. and Sledge Hammer mag issue 9.
  116.   Famous  members:   Viti,  Jaby, CRM,
  117. ADT,  Ben,  Erno,  Petroff.  (Am I the
  118. only  one  who  feels that someone has
  119. been  left  out?   - Fester) (Noooo, I
  120. don't see myself either - Archie)
  121.  
  122.   CERBEROS  DESIGNS:   Also containing
  123. the  so called veterans.  Members came
  124. from  ex-TDS  CREW,  which wasn't that
  125. famous  at all.  Their members are one
  126. of  the most talented guys in Hungary,
  127. so  that  isn't  very surprising, that
  128. their  demos  are  very  high  quality
  129. ones.   There  wasn't any competition,
  130. where    they    released    something
  131. (CHROMANCE   party  V1.0,  SB23C  BASH
  132. V1.0).    We  really  lost  something,
  133. since   they   stopped   their   scene
  134. activities  and started to concentrate
  135. on the game business.
  136.   Releases:  Mindwreck, Copper Orgasm,
  137. Secret  Science,  Filled  Until Death,
  138. 4096   colour  intro  and  some  other
  139. stylish ones.
  140.   Famous   members:    Bruce,  Silkie,
  141. Cunc, Goophy.
  142.  
  143.   CHROMANCE:    Once  it  was  a  very
  144. strong  and  powerful crew.  Organized
  145. two  parties, and made nice demos both
  146. on  Amiga  and  64.  Members came from
  147. former  FBI CREW, DOUBLE U and others.
  148. Nowadays  lost their Amiga members and
  149. continue its activity only on the 64.
  150.    Releases:    Let  There  Be  Party,
  151. intros.
  152.    Famous  members  (all  left):  SKC,
  153. Griff, Chris, Jazzy D, Jean.
  154.  
  155.   COLLAPSE:  It was a fun-crew, now we
  156. know.   They've  got three members and
  157. released  only  one  intro, but it was
  158. quite  cool!   The  crew was born on a
  159. weekend    when   CRM/Absolute!    and
  160. Avantage/Majic  12 met in CRM's place.
  161. They  were  bored  of scene and made a
  162. crew   to   surprise   everybody!   So
  163. Collapse is dead now...
  164.  
  165.   CONCORD:   Concord  is  another  new
  166. crew  in  Hungary,  formed in the same
  167. town like Soc.Brigade.  They have only
  168. three   members   and   they   haven't
  169. released  much.   They also worked for
  170. Sledge    Hammer   mainly   in   music
  171. composing...
  172.   Releases:  two intros
  173.   Famous members:  Tesi, Tibi, Feri
  174.  
  175.   DESIGN  HOUSE:   This crew was found
  176. last  summer  from  former  members of
  177. CERBEROS,   23   CELSIUS  and  others.
  178. Since  their  first  Introduction demo
  179. they  faded  from  view  and  released
  180. simply nothing.  Hopefully we will see
  181. something in the near future!
  182.    Releases:  Introduction.
  183.    Famous members:  Boomby.
  184.  
  185.   ERRORS:   Don't  mix  up  this group
  186. with  the old Norwegian crew under the
  187. same  name.  They have their label for
  188. approx five years now, and didn't know
  189. anything about the others.  So they do
  190. not   intend  to  change  their  name.
  191. Released sone quite impressive digita-
  192. lized animations and musicdisks.
  193.    Releases:  Buck Rogers.
  194.    Famous member:  Bali
  195.  
  196.   FI-RE CREW:  They were quite lame at
  197. the   very  first  time,  wrote  their
  198. scrolls in Hungarian and made some low
  199. quality  productions.  After they grew
  200. up   to   the   usual   standard   and
  201. surprisingly  we could see their demo,
  202. called  "Chaos"  on CU Amiga's top ten
  203. in  December  '91.   In the end of '92
  204. after  loosing their best members they
  205. decided  to  "suicide" so Fire Crew is
  206. dead.    Their   swapper,  Mr.   Pixel
  207. started to build up a new crew, called
  208. Impulse with the rest of FIRE Crew and
  209. some others.
  210.    Releases:    Fi-re   birds,  Chaos,
  211. Fi-re land and some intros.
  212.    Famous  members:  Fricforce, Ready-
  213. soft.
  214.  
  215.   GRACE:    Just  a  division  of  the
  216. wellknown  international  group.  They
  217. have made one or two musicdiscs and an
  218. average  demo.  Also organized a party
  219. at the beginning of last year in Gyor,
  220. where  BASH3  will  be held.  Now they
  221. are dead.
  222.   Releases:  Musicdisc, Working Power.
  223.   Famous members:  Matrix, Mr.Sister.
  224.  
  225.   GRAFFITI:   This group is famous for
  226. their high-quality imagine animations.
  227. They  had a department in Finland, but
  228. they are silent for a year...
  229.   Releases:  Rose Intro, G-Intro
  230.   Famous members:  After Shave.
  231.  
  232.   IMPULSE:   New  Hungarian group from
  233. Fire   Crew  and  Submission  members,
  234. Submission  Denmark  also joined.  The
  235. organizer  is  MR.Pixel.   Their plans
  236. are   releasing   a   cool   demo   at
  237. Absolute!'s  3rd Bash party, releasing
  238. a  Hungarian  and  an English diskmag,
  239. divisions  in  all  European countries
  240. and  new  style  chart-mag.  They have
  241. released  only  one  intro, with glenz
  242. vectors.
  243.   Releases:  First Intro.
  244.   Famous Members:  Mr.Pixel, Renegade
  245.  
  246.   ISCH CREW:  A little crew with a few
  247. members  and  very few releases.  They
  248. are  a  bit  known  because of Bart of
  249. Isch  Crew,  who  has  made  some good
  250. pictures  for  SH  and  for its intro.
  251. They released a mag called Bomber.
  252.   Famous members:  Bomber, Bart
  253.  
  254.   K.O.   5001:   I  don't know much of
  255. them.  They have a good graphician and
  256. for  this  they reached nice places on
  257. several parties...
  258.  
  259.   LAMER  CREW:   Just  like their name
  260. shows, they claim to be lamers.  Their
  261. only  aim  is  to make funny demos and
  262. release  them  on  different  parties.
  263. They  appeare  on all the parties with
  264. stickers  and  lots  of  booze.   They
  265. aren't  always  successfull,  E.g  the
  266. first  demo  of them was so digusting,
  267. that it was not allowed to be shown on
  268. the competition!
  269.   Releases:   1st  and  2nd demo, Cube
  270. Intro, Black Hole.
  271.   Famous members:  Rat Face, Atya.
  272.  
  273.   LIVE  ACT:   It  was among the three
  274. best  Hungarian  groups, but also dead
  275. now.   Most  of  their members live at
  276. the  most  eastern  part  of  Hungary.
  277. They   built  up  a  cooperation  with
  278. GENESIS  and  made  a  stunning vector
  279. demo  with  strange and funny objects.
  280. Also  they had a Norwegian and maybe a
  281. German division.  The group was famous
  282. for  its  summertime  castle  parties.
  283. Most  of their members left the scene,
  284. others joined Absolute!
  285.   Releases:   Dentro,  The White Room,
  286. and some intros, invitation.
  287.   Famous   members:    Raize,  Grekko,
  288. Viti, Jaby, MC.Green.
  289.  
  290.   MAJIC  12:  I think, I don't have to
  291. introduce  this  wellknown  team.  But
  292. one  thing  must  be written.  M12 has
  293. his  origin  in  Hungary  and  nowhere
  294. else!   Beside  this  they  have  some
  295. departments   in:    Norway,   Sweden,
  296. Denmark,  Australia etc.  The founders
  297. came from the former ILC=I LOVE CEMENT
  298. Crew.   Since  then  they  became much
  299. greater    and    also   climbed   the
  300. Eurocharts  with  their  high designed
  301. demos.  Some of their members become a
  302. legend,  like Rack.  Also they had the
  303. first  BBS  in  our conutry!  Nowadays
  304. Majic 12 Hungary is almost dead.  Zozo
  305. has  sold  his  machine  and  left for
  306. England, Rack is in the army, Avantage
  307. is  in  the army, the others are doing
  308. nothing,  only  Jazzy  D is doing some
  309. swapping and coding an intro.
  310.   Releases:   Ray  Of  Hope  1-2,  Top
  311. Secret,  Zoom  it series and different
  312. intros.
  313.   Famous   members:   Avantage,  Zozo,
  314. Rack, Maci.
  315.  
  316.   NORTHSTAR:   There were some scandal
  317. against  the Hungarian section, but as
  318. the  Swedish  guys  didn't give a shit
  319. about  the  whole scene last time (see
  320. Kaktus  and  Mahoney),  they  could do
  321. their  job  in silence.  They are also
  322. seems to be dead.
  323.   Releases:   Question Of Belief, some
  324. party demos and intros.
  325.   Famous members:  dr.Test.
  326.  
  327.   MOONLIGHT:    They  are  a  talented
  328. group  and  they  all live in the same
  329. region,  which  is  a  big  advantage.
  330. They think about leaving the scene, it
  331. would  be  bad move from them...  They
  332. planned to release a mag and musicdisk
  333. from  Magnum  775,  one  of  the  best
  334. Hungarian musician.
  335.   Releases:  Partyinvitation trackmo
  336.   Famous members:  Magnum 775, Silver
  337.  
  338.   MUFFBUSTERS:   They are a bit out of
  339. scene, because they have released only
  340. one  intro  and  one  demo, because of
  341. game    projects.    They   are   real
  342. partyfreaks  at  least!   This crew is
  343. getting  better  lately,  they won the
  344. fake Bash party.
  345.   Releases:       CDTV      musicdisk,
  346. digi-intro, a few games.
  347.   Famous members:  Mucsi, Alex.
  348.  
  349.   RED  RATS:   They  are  talented but
  350. lazy  guys.   They  have released many
  351. intros        and       won       some
  352. intro-competitions.   CRM  their  most
  353. active   member   (ex-leader)   joined
  354. Absolute!
  355.   Famous  members:   Frank  N.  Stein,
  356. Botcher.
  357.  
  358.   SOC.BRIGADE:    Again   a  legendary
  359. band.   I  can  say that they made our
  360. Amiga   scene  with  their  unstopable
  361. activity  from  the  beginning  of the
  362. time  till  now.  SB is definietly the
  363. most  productive Hungarian team, which
  364. is  famous  for  its  magazine  called
  365. "Sledge Hammer" (unfortunately only in
  366. Hungarian),  its  parties  and at last
  367. but  not  least  its demos.  Also they
  368. are  the first group with an active PC
  369. division.   The most admission must go
  370. to ADT for doing the 80% of job in his
  371. crew.   He  is a coder, graphician and
  372. musician, organizer and swapper at the
  373. same  time!  (This was written by Jean
  374. of   Scoopex  half  year  ago.)  Today
  375. Soc.Brigade  doesn't  exist.   Most of
  376. the members made Absolute!
  377.   Releases:     Sledge    Hammer,   SH
  378. slideshows, Boxer, Narcover, Aabsolute
  379. demo an invitation and different great
  380. intros, utilities and Ben's packs!
  381.   Famous  members:   ADT,  Ern0,  Ben,
  382. Petroff.
  383.  
  384.   SCOOPEX  HUNGARY:   This  is the ex.
  385. TRSI   HUNGARY,   but  as  S!P  joined
  386. Scoopex,  Jean also joined them.  He's
  387. the  only member at the moment and not
  388. very active as he's in Denmark.  Well,
  389. it's  hard  to write about one person,
  390. but  Scoopex  Hungary had the first PD
  391. Company im HUNGARY.
  392.   Famous membes:  Jean
  393.  
  394.   WAVE:   This  crew  formed  from the
  395. members  of  Tuthanhamon.   They  have
  396. released  one  trackmo preview.  Majic
  397. 12  wanted to make a party with themm,
  398. but  it  remaind plan...  They have no
  399. spreader and they no nothing about the
  400. other Wave in Skandinavia.
  401.   Famous member:  Amon Ra
  402.  
  403.   WAVWRIDERS:  A new team in Budapest.
  404. They  haven't released much, only some
  405. animations   from   their  graphician,
  406. Soldier.  They are only known of their
  407. war  with  ISCH  CREW.   May be in the
  408. future   they   will   concentrate  in
  409. productions...
  410.   Famous members:  4oldier, Soldier.

  413. GAME SCENE
  414. ----------
  415.  
  416.   In Hungary, piracy is not prohibited
  417. yet, so you can imagine the situation.
  418. Thousands  of  people are just playing
  419. with  the  new  or  old games, like in
  420. every   country.    But  here  are  no
  421. cracker  teams, just the importers are
  422. making  big  money  for selling stuffs
  423. (read  more  in  To Crack...).  But as
  424. the  shops  don't offer any Amiga game
  425. (only  Novotrade sells abou 5-6 games,
  426. the  newest  one  is  2  years  old...
  427. -ed),  so  it's  not that bad what the
  428. importers are doing.

  430.   Well, I hope it was satisfaction for
  431. everybody.   I have to say again, this
  432. article  was based in Jean's old scene
  433. review  and  Fester  gave me some good
  434. advices,  too.  Anyway, who brought it
